As a father of four and new grandfather, Arthur considers himself a hands-on dad. His home-run embroidery business allowed him to raise his children and watch them grow into adults.

During those rewarding, yet sometimes challenging childrearing years, Arthur never imagined that he’d attend a funeral for one of his sons, Nicholas.

A tragic car accident took his 23-year-old son’s life, but in the midst of the family’s grief, Arthur remembered that Nicholas had registered to be an organ donor when the two of them went to the Department of Motor Vehicles together. Because of this decision, Nicholas saved several lives across the country. “We know a lot about the people Nicholas saved through his gifts of life,” Arthur said. “What’s most astonishing is that each person who received an organ from Nicholas shared one of his passions too.”

Nicholas’s decision to become an organ and tissue donor saved four lives. He donated both of his kidneys, his heart and his liver.
