Brittney's Story

In their time of sadness they had enough heart to give me a second chance at life. My donor family deserves the best.

Brittney  |  Heart Recipient

Brittney Andrews was born with a malformed heart and little hope for survival.  At only 12-weeks of age, she received a heart transplant that has given her a second chance at life. Brittney learned to appreciate the kindness of strangers at an early age and she thanks her donor family for the heart that has made her life possible.

In 2004, Brittney met her donor family for the first time.  “In their time of sadness they had enough heart to give me a second chance at life. My donor family deserves the best. I am going to do all I can to share my life experiences with them to show how much I appreciate all that they have done for me,” Brittney said.

Now 16 years of age, Brittney is an honor student in Loveland, Colorado. She speaks publicly about transplantation and participates in organ donation awareness activities in local communities throughout the U.S. As a constant reminder of the generous gift she received, Brittney wears a picture of her donor at every event she attends.

Brittney has competed in the U.S. Transplant Games and the World Games. This summer, she has plans to sprint towards a gold medal in Bangkok, Thailand.
