DONOR ALLIANCE HOSTS ITS SIGNATURE EVENT - THE 8th ANNUAL DONOR DASH
Participants will gather in Washington Park to celebrate, honor and recognize those impacted by organ and tissue donation
DENVER—July 13, 2007—Donor Alliance, the organ procurement organization serving Colorado and most of Wyoming, will host the 8th annual Donor Dash in Washington Park, Sunday, July 15th. The Donor Dash honors the lives of organ and tissue donors, celebrates the lives of recipients and recognizes those who continue to wait for a lifesaving transplant. This event is also an opportunity for those who are not registered organ and tissue donors to join the Colorado and Wyoming donor registries.
Nationally, nearly 100,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. In Colorado and Wyoming, more than 1,700 people are on the waiting list.
The Donor Dash is the single largest organ and tissue donation event in Colorado. This race continues to grow every year with nearly 1,000 participants and supporters attending in 2006. All proceeds benefit education about organ and tissue donation in Colorado and Wyoming.
This year, mothers Cheryl Badger and Lori Sanchez will share stories about their children and how donation has impacted their lives in a program following the run/walk.
There will be activities for the whole family.
Join runners and walkers in the Donate Life garden, a gathering place for more than 30 families who are celebrating the lives of their loved ones who were organ and tissue donors. Families will gather in the garden near signs posted in tribute to their loved ones.
Donor Alliance also welcomes Team Denver Rescue Mission to the Donor Dash to help inspire the others by sharing their hardships and encouraging people to give back to their communities.
There will also be activities for the entire family including kids’ races, face painting, balloons, a diaper dash for toddlers and other fun activities.
