Donor Alliance in the News

As the organ procurement organization serving Colorado and most of Wyoming, Donor Alliance facilitates the donation and recovery of organs and tissue for people needing transplantation.

Donor Alliance is also committed to educating the public about the current lack of organ and tissue donors and the tremendous need for people across Colorado and Wyoming to say “yes” to donation.

Because of our commitment to education and our role in the organ and tissue donation process, Donor Alliance proactively works with local and regional media to increase our presence in the public arena. Whether it is a feature story from a donor family or a medical article about one of our processes, we feel it is important to continually strive to increase understanding about our very important work.

An image of Melody’s daughter will be wrought in flowers above her. Donor Alliance flew them to Pasadena this week to work on the "Stars of Life" float.

Donor Alliance hosts Floragraph Decorating Event at Columbine Elementary School

Donor Alliance hosted a one of a kind event on December 16, 2008, honoring its 2009 Donate Life Float rider, Melody Connett. In preparation for the 2009 Rose Parade, Donor Alliance organized a Floragraph Decorating ceremony to be held locally – the first of its kind, as a Rose Parade float floragraph has been never shipped to a family outside of California for decorating. The event took place at Columbine Elementary School, where Melody’s daughter Jill was a special Ed teacher prior to her fatal accident in 2003.

Melody will be Donor Alliance’s 2009 Donate Life float rider and will travel to Pasadena to ride on the float, beneath this floragraph of her daughter. Carole Pirri – the recipient of Jill’s liver – will also go to Pasadena to cheer Melody on from the grandstands. Both women joined with friends and family in the school’s auditorium to remember and honor Jill by placing the finishing touches on her floragraph.

Four local news stations attended including channels CW2, CBS 4 Denver, KUSA News 9 and KKTV News 11 (out of Colorado Springs).
