Kelli's Story

Jake was such a people person. He touched so many lives during his lifetime and now, through his death, by giving the gift of life to several other people in need.

Kelli  |  Donor Mother

As a registered nurse working in the transplant center of a local Denver hospital, Kelli knows first hand how dire the need is for organ and tissue donors. But she never imagined that her son, Jake, would be the one to save lives through his gift of donation.

When Jake collapsed on the football field at his junior varsity football game in 2004, Kelli had no idea that soon he would be pronounced brain dead and that she would be asked to consent to donation.

“Jake always knew about the importance of organ and tissue donation because it was a part of our daily life,” Kelli recalled. “Jake was such a people person. He touched so many lives during his lifetime and now, through his death, by giving the gift of life to several other people in need.”

Following Jake’s death, Kelli became an active volunteer and advocate for Donor Alliance and now serves on the Advisory board and several committees.
