THIS SUMMER MAKE A DECISION TO SAVE LIVES BY REGISTERING TO BE AN ORGAN AND TISSUE DONOR
Your decision to say ‘yes’ to donation has the potential to save hundreds of lives
Dear Editor:
As summer beings to wane and fall approaches, it is an important time of year for Wyomingites to think about organ and tissue donation and its far reaching effects. A single organ donor could save up to eight lives and a single tissue donor has the potential to save 100. This summer, make it a point to discuss your decision to be a donor the next time your family gets together. It is a decision that has the potential to save hundreds of lives across the state of Wyoming and the country.
In addition to talking with your family about your decision to be a donor, it is especially important to register your decision when you receive or renew your driver’s license at the DMV. You can also register online at WyomingDonorRegistry.org.
As a state, Wyoming has one of the highest rates of organ and tissue donation registrants, nearly 60 percent, but that means there are plenty who still have the opportunity to say ‘yes’ when receiving or renewing their driver’s license this summer.
There are nearly 100,000 people on the national waiting list and that number is increasing every day. As of July 31, 2007, 109 Wyoming residents are waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
