DONOR ALLIANCE HOSTS ITS SIGNATURE EVENT - THE 9TH ANNUAL DONOR DASH
Participants Gather in Washington Park to celebrate, honor and recognize those impacted
DENVER—July 11, 2008—Donor Alliance, the organ procurement organization serving Colorado and most of Wyoming, will host the 9th annual Donor Dash in Washington Park on Sunday, July 13th. The Donor Dash honors the lives of organ and tissue donors, celebrates the lives of organ and tissue recipients and recognizes those who continue to wait for a lifesaving transplant. This event is also an opportunity for those who have not designated their decision to be a donor to join the Colorado or Wyoming state donor registries.
Nationally, nearly 100,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. In Colorado and Wyoming, close to 1,800 people are on the waiting list.
The Donor Dash is the single largest organ and tissue donation event in Colorado. The race continues to grow every year with more than 1,600 participants and supporters attending in 2007. This year, more than 2,000 participants are expected.
Donor mother, Melody Connett and liver recipient, Carole Pirri, will share their story about how they met at last year’s event for the first time–connected by Melody’s daughter, Jill’s, gift of life.
There will be activities for the whole family.
Join runners and walkers in the Donate Life garden, a gathering place where more than 40 donor families will celebrate the lives of their loved ones who were organ and tissue donors.
There will be activities for the entire family including kids’ races, face painting, balloons, a diaper dash for toddlers and other fun activities.
