Coroner's Corner
Donor Alliance recognizes the important role Coroners and their staff play in our communities of Colorado and Wyoming. We also recognize that they are a vital link to the organ and tissue donation process. Donor Alliance offers the following resources to all the Colorado and Wyoming Coroners:
Coroner Support – Sundee Clemans, the Coroner/Funeral Services Liaison came to Donor Alliance with funeral experience and she understands the challenges you face. Sundee is available to you and your staff with any issues or concerns regarding organ and tissue donation.
Death Investigation and Organ and Tissue Donation – A resource of organ and tissue recovery agencies, Medical Examiners and Coroners. This document is free to you and your staff.
Educational Programs – Educational sessions are available for every Coroner’s office as well as for Emergency Responders, Police, Fire and Sherriff’s Departments and Victim Advocates.
Coroner Protocol Review Committee – The Coroner Protocol Review Committee was developed because of the integral role Coroners play in organ and tissue donation. The objective of this committee is to maintain a good working relationship with Coroners through effective communication. With strong cooperation from all parties, we can positively influence the donation process and decrease the organ shortage that affects thousands of people each day. We encourage Coroners and District Attorneys to join this committee.
Coroner Resource Committee – In order to build relationships and improve communication with the Coroners in our communities, we have developed a committee to focus on process improvement.
Coroner Referral Program – As a Coroner for the State of Colorado, you can play a significant role in helping both grieving families and patients in need of lifesaving, life-enhancing tissue grafts by notifying Donor Alliance of any deaths that do not occur in a hospital. This is a great service to those in need of transplants and to surviving families and friends who would like to choose donation.
National Donate Life Month – This is an opportunity make a difference by educating your community. Throughout April, several events will be taking place encouraging people to sign-up on the donor registry. Special materials will be made available for circulation.
Workplace Partnership for Life – We would like you to get involved in becoming a workplace partner. Started as a national initiative by Tommy Thompson, we reach out to local businesses and associations encouraging employees and members to become involved in helping save lives.
Coroner's Corner Newsletter Articles – Do you have a unique story to tell? Submit an article to our bi-annual newsletter (February and September), Perspectives.
