CORPORATIONS PLEDGE TO HELP SAVE LIVES THROUGH WORKPLACE PARTNERSHIP FOR LIFE 12 WEEKS OF GIVING
Colorado businesses celebrate the holiday season by encouraging employees to register to be
Denver—November 28, 2007—Throughout this holiday season, corporations in Colorado and Wyoming are being asked to participate in the 12 Weeks of Giving campaign, an initiative of the Workplace Partnership for Life program that was introduced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2001. Nationally, corporations are being challenged to help register 400,000 new organ and tissue donors over the next 12 weeks.
Donor Alliance, the organ procurement organization that serves Colorado and most of Wyoming, is spearheading the program, building partnerships with local and national corporations and providing them with tools to effectively educate their employees about the need for organ and tissue donors. Participating organizations will engage in an array of donation related events, from hosting a registry drive, providing donation information in paycheck stuffers to designating company time for employees to register to be organ and tissue donors.
The 12 Weeks of Giving campaign is needed because close to 100,000 people are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in the U.S. Unfortunately, due to a lack of available donor organs, 18 people die every day on the waiting list.
“Workplace Partnership for Life was an easy decision for us,” said Bert Goins of Education Sales Management. “Several ESM employees have been personally affected by donation and transplantation and we never know when we ourselves might need the help. Donor Alliance provided us with everything we needed to carry out the program with little time and work and we know that our efforts will be far reaching.”
Currently, eight companies in Colorado and Wyoming have committed to save lives during the 12 Weeks of Giving campaign.
“Denver businesses have tremendous potential to change the organ and tissue shortage by educating their employees using simple, internal communication techniques,” said Sue Dunn, president and CEO of Donor Alliance. “By committing to the12 Weeks of Giving campaign we can collectively help the 1,750 people in Colorado and Wyoming who are waiting for a lifesaving transplant. If just one employee from a participating company registers, potentially eight lives can be saved through organ donation and more than 100 through donated tissue.”
All companies that are interested in joining the initiative are encouraged to contact Sunne Reif, community relations coordinator of Donor Alliance at 303.329.4747. To register your decision to be an organ and tissue donor visit www.ColoradoDonorRegistry.org or call (888) 256-4386.
