Kathy will be running her twelfth BOLDERBoulder this year, but this time around, it’s got a special meaning all because of something that happened back in January. “I got a phone call right when I came home and they said, ‘We have a liver. You have to come in for surgery’ and I was shocked and I couldn’t believe it,” she remembered.

Four years ago, Jaclyn Prybella didn’t know the man she loved was a hero, but today she’s unafraid to call him exactly that – a hero. See, Tyler Martin made a decision that would change the lives of four people across Colorado, and on this day Prybella was honoring that decision. Young and healthy, Martin wasn’t shy about his wishes when it came to helping others. If anything ever happened to him, his organs were to be donated.

One person donated a kidney. The other returned a world championship. It was life-defining exchange. Sara Millard’s life. Two years ago, she was nearing the end of her rope, having been born severely ill and struggling with health issues throughout her childhood. Her first surgery was at six weeks of age. Her first heart attack in kindergarten.
