Scott Pinkney – Liver Recipient

Have you always lived in Colorado?

No, I packed up my family and moved to California in the early 90’s chasing a job. We had a print shop for a couple years, turned it over to my partners, and returned home to Colorado. I found that I’m happier where my wife’s happier.

What is your favorite color?

Black

How long have you been volunteering for Donor Alliance?

I’ve been volunteering for almost 2 years now. I’ve mostly been assisting with tasks around the office and in doing so have found an interest in the Transplantation Science program. I’ve been entering the responses received from students after our educators have delivered training at their school. The students take surveys home where they complete the form with their family. The forms are returned to their teacher who then sends them to the Donor Alliance. This is where I come in; I enter their responses into a database. Donor Alliance and its instructors then run reports to see where we need to improve the training the students receive. It’s a great program that initiates the important discussion within families; do you want to register as an organ, eye and tissue donor?

If you could see any band/singer in concert (current or past) who would you watch?

I always wanted to see the Moody Blues in concert. Yeah, I’m old.

What state where you born in?

Colorado. In fact, my wife and I were born at the same hospital and the same delivery nurse signed both our birth certificates! It was in the stars, baby!

What is the best meal you have ever eaten?

This is tough as I have eaten A LOT of meals in my time! Let’s see… this may sound simple but I love the turkey soup you make after Thanksgiving! YUM!!

What is your favorite memory while volunteering?

I’d have to say favorite “memories.” The memories of people sharing their stories of how transplantation has affected their lives. I’ve been an instructor for over 25 years and this is the only training I have ever attended that had tissues ready at every table. The first time I saw them I didn’t understand what they were for. But after training started and people shared their stories, I fully understood why each box was placed at every table.
