Donor Alliance Donation Resources

Welcome to the Donor Alliance Donation Resources Page. This page will serve as a landing pad for resources related to the organ and tissue donation process. Please check back periodically, as this page will continue to be updated with new information and resources. Thank you for being a crucial part of the donation process!

The referral call is critical for setting the stage for organ and tissue donation. Referrals help to identify a patient who is meeting clinical triggers for donation so that Donor Alliance can work collaboratively with our Hospital Partners to manage and facilitate the donation process.

Following Up with the Donor Information Line

After the initial referral is made, it is important that hospital staff update Donor Alliance via the Donor Information Line if and when any of the following happen:

  • There are changes to the plan of care
  • Family mentions/has questions about donation
  • Family meetings to discuss end of life are planned
    • An early call is always helpful so that we can be on-site to speak family about donation options, if appropriate.
  • PRIOR to extubation, regardless of neuro status
    • We will call you back to evaluate if the patient has donation potential
    • Please wait to extubate until you hear back from a Donor Alliance coordinator
    • Things to say to the Next of Kin – “I need to get a few things in order before we can extubate, why don’t you take some time with your loved while I do that. I will be back shortly.”
