April is National Donate Life Month, a national observance highlighting the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. Flag-raising ceremonies bring awareness of what it means to be an organ donor and highlights the partnership between Donor Alliance and Cimarron Middle School. It will take place at the flagpole near the front entrance of the school.
“He had a heart of gold. He would do anything for anybody,” recalls Laura, remembering her son Dustyn, who passed away in 2015 at the age of 30. Those who knew him best describe Dustyn as kind, warm, and endlessly generous. He had a deep love for animals and a spirit that made people feel seen, valued, and welcome the moment they met him.
Even in loss, Dustyn’s compassion did not end. Through the gift of organ donation, his legacy lives on in the lives he saved and the healing he made possible for so many families. In moments of unimaginable grief, his story became one of hope and second chances. Each year, the people who love him come together at the Wyoming Donor Dash to honor the remarkable person Dustyn was and to celebrate the lives he continues to touch. It’s a day filled with remembrance, honoring those who gave the gift of life. One person’s generosity can create a lasting impact that reaches far beyond a lifetime.
