National Donate Life Month: Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness

#ShineALight For National Donate Life Month this April

Colorado and Wyoming are two of the most supportive states in the country when it comes to signing up to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. Thanks to the generosity of 307 organ donors last year, and 918 organs were transplants. Yet, the need is still great with around 1,300 people in our region continue to wait for lifesaving transplants. Let’s shine a light on organ, eye and tissue donation and give hope to those waiting this April! This April, ‘Shine a Light’ to show your support for organ, eye and tissue donation.

“April is National Donate Life Month which provides an opportunity to come together to honor those who have saved lives by becoming organ, eye, and tissue donors and to encouraging our community to sign up as donors. With many Coloradoans and Wyomingites saying Yes to donation, we know our community believes in helping their neighbors in need.

As a valued partner, volunteer, and supporter, please join us by ‘Shining a Light’ to show your support to the nearly 1,300 people in our region that await lifesaving transplants today. In honor of the 1,703 tissue donors, 307 organ donors and 918 lifesaving and healing transplants in 2023, we will distribute over 900 “Shine A Light” kits out into our community.

We have partnered with cities, counties, and hospitals that will illuminate their buildings in blue and green to bring awareness to the need to register as an organ, eye and tissue donor. Thank you for joining Donor Alliance as we honor our heroic organ and tissue donors and their families, celebrate those who receive lifesaving and healing transplants, and recognize those who continue to wait.

You can request a free “Shine A Light” kit all month long. By placing the included candle in your window, your participation will bring light to those on the waiting list. Remember to visit DecidingOnDonation.org this April for giveaways and activities updated weekly.”

As we distribute #ShineALight kits into our community, we illuminate the need to register as an organ, eye and tissue donation. Look for buildings illuminated around town and candles lit in windows to show support in Colorado and Wyoming for National Donate Life Month. It’s easy to participate! This observance has been celebrated every April since 2003, when it was established by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations. Here in our community, NDLM is celebrated by Coloradoans and Wyomingites alike showing their heart in support for organ, eye and tissue donation.
