Sue Dunn, RN, B.S.N, M.B.A., has been elected president of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network/United Network for Organ Sharing (OPTN/UNOS) board of directors. She is president and chief executive officer of Donor Alliance, the Denver-based organ procurement organization serving Colorado and most of Wyoming.

“For more than three decades I have dedicated myself to the lifesaving work of organ donation. My passion for this privileged job has never wavered, and I am invigorated by what lies ahead,” said Ms. Dunn.

She will serve a one-year term beginning in July 2018. As president, she will direct the efforts of the governing body of the organization that serves as the nation’s organ transplant network under federal contract. Her duties include leading semiannual meetings of the OPTN/UNOS board, as well as chairing the OPTN/UNOS Executive Committee and UNOS’ Corporate Affairs Committee. She is responsible for strategic planning, including the establishment of key goals and oversight of progress in areas such as:

• increasing the number of transplants
• providing equity in access to transplants
• improving outcomes for waitlisted patients, living donors and transplant recipients
• promoting safety for living donors and transplant recipients
• promoting the efficient management of the OPTN

Ms. Dunn currently serves as vice president/president-elect of the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors and as vice chair of the OPTN/UNOS Executive Committee and UNOS Corporate Affairs Committee. She previously chaired the OPTN/UNOS Policy Oversight Committee. She also has served on OPTN/UNOS committees including Membership and Professional Standards, Pediatric Transplantation and Liver and Intestinal Organ Transplantation.

She is on the board of directors of AlloSource and served for 10 years on the board of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance of the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, previously serving as president of both boards. She is past president of the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO), where she chaired its Legislative/Regulatory and Standards and Accreditation committees and currently is an AOPO accreditation site surveyor. She has been on the board of directors of NATCO–The Organization for Transplant Professionals and the Donor Awareness Council and also served on the organ donor task force of the National Kidney Foundation.

Ms. Dunn earned a master of business administration degree from Regis University in Denver and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
