Stories of Hope

Katie

.
Loved ones of Katie Hankins, affectionately known as “Katie Bug,” remember her as a kind, vibrant soul who was always radiating love and joy. After Katie passed away in May of 2025, she became an organ donor, saving and healing many lives. Katie’s family describe her as a spirited dancer whose laughter filled every room she entered. Katie’s loved ones had the opportunity to meet Ezequiel Espino, the man who received her heart and is alive today because of her generosity. Both families came together to honor Katie’s legacy and celebrate the life she helped save. “I’m going to work really hard so this heart keeps working,” said Ezequiel. “It’s an honor to have them as a second family.”
