National Donate Life Month: Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness

Blue and Green Day

National Blue & Green Day 2024 on Friday, April 12, is a time to raise awareness about the   importance of registering as an organ, eye, and tissue donor for National Donate Life Month. It’s also a time to honor the heroic donors and their families who said “yes” to organ, eye, and tissue donation. Coloradans and Wyomingites are encouraged to wear blue and green on this day to promote the importance of registering as an organ, eye, and tissue donor to save and heal more lives in our community. From dressing up your pup, to decorating your sneakers or wearing your best blue and green outfit, get creative and consider participating in Donate Life America Blue & Green Day Photo Contest!

This year, buildings across our region are lighting up to #ShineALight on organ, eye and tissue donation. From the Marion H Rochelle Gateway Center on the University of Wyoming’s campus to the Denver City and County Building, the region will illuminate in blue and green at night.

Blue & Green Lighting Event – April 11

On Thursday, April 11 at 6:45 p.m. join Donor Alliance at the third annual National Donate Life  Month Lighting Event at the City and County of Denver Building located on Bannock Street between 14th and Colfax. The event aims to inspire the community about the power of donation. Attendees will witness the transformation of the City & County of Denver Building as it takes on a blue and green glow to show support and raise awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation.

The event will feature remarks from Jennifer Prinz, CEO & President of Donor Alliance, and powerful stories from Donor Alliance advocate volunteers to connect everyone to this lifesaving mission. It’s an opportunity to champion a cause that touches countless lives.

#ShineALight for Donation

If you haven’t downloaded and printed your #ShineALight sign yet, do that today. You can help us illuminate across Colorado and Wyoming. These candles represent 1,300 of our neighbors who continue to wait for a lifesaving organ transplant. Thousands more are waiting for lifesaving and healing tissue transplants, which provide hope to people suffering from injury, disease, trauma, or blindness.

It’s easy to get involved – just download your free #ShineALight sign, get a candle of your choice, and then upload your photo to our #ShineALight gallery!

Remember, the best way to help those on the waitlist during National Donate Life Month is to register your decision to save and heal lives! Say Yes today in Colorado or Wyoming. It’s also important to share your decision with your loved ones.
