Advocate Spotlight: Don Lechuga
Donor Alliance Advocates for Life are the heart and soul of our efforts to inspire and inform our community about the importance of signing up to be an organ, eye and tissue donor in Colorado and Wyoming. Each of our Advocates have their own unique and inspiring story to tell. In this Advocate Spotlight, meet Don Lechuga, a Recipient’s Father from Glenwood Springs, CO. Don has been a dedicated Advocate for Life for 10 years!
Get to Know Don Lechuga in this Month’s Advocate Spotlight:
What’s your favorite memory or event volunteering at Donor Alliance so far? My favorite memory volunteering for Donor Alliance is standing behind a booth with Debbie Youngerman, another Advocate who passed away a few years ago. A true friend; her love and passion for Donor Alliance rubbed off on me in a huge way.
If you could have any super power for 24 hours, what would you do? I would want to be able to wave my hands over people’s body needing a transplant to eliminate the pain, relief, surgery and worry.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? The best advice I’ve received has been to always be forgiving no matter what; it may take time, but be forgiving to all.
What is your favorite season and why? Fall, the golden leaves on the trees in mid-late September; changing to orange, sometimes through the first week of October. Also the time I married my wife and cold crisp mornings. Looking forward to the fall season.
What is your proudest accomplishment? My wife and I raising our son and daughter to become compassionate young adults; helping others in a caring way.
If you could take an all-expenses paid trip, where would you go? For me, a Star Wars fan, it would be a trip to Disneyland to see Galaxy’s Edge!
What are your favorite hobbies? My favorite hobbies include country dancing with my wife, playing guitar, playing music at senior centers, fly fishing, fly tying, drawing with pastels and enjoying time with my granddaughter.
