We’re so proud to work with each and every one of our staff members here at Donor Alliance. In our Staff Spotlight, we like to take a minute to share who we are and why we work at Donor Alliance. In this month’s staff spotlight, meet Serena Altamirano. Serena is a Donor Services Manager at Donor Alliance and has been part of the team for 6 and a half years.

Meet Serena in our August 2023 Donor Alliance Staff Spotlight

Serena 2Tell us a little about your role with Donor Alliance.

I am one of the Donor Services Managers in the Family Services department. I oversee the Tissue donor coordinators who speak with donor families about the Tissue donation pathway, they walk donor families through honoring their loved one’s wishes or provide donation options to the family. My role is also responsible for oversight of the screening and coordination aspects of Tissue donation.

What do you enjoy most about/what’s the most rewarding aspect of your role?

It looks different for every family but the most rewarding part for me is hearing how donor families are fulfilled in knowing they were able to help others through the precious gift of donation.

Tell us about a time at work that really moved you. What’s the most meaningful interaction you’ve had at a Donor Alliance event? Most moving experience you’ve been a part of?

Most of the staff that work with Tissue donor families do so over the phone. Some of the most meaningful interactions I’ve seen

are when our phone coordinators get to meet donor families in person at events, or volunteer opportunities. It is a special moment for all involved.

If you change anything about your life, what would you change?

I’d probably travel more, because why not!

When you’re not working, what do you like to do for fun?

Outside of work my life is my family we love traveling, the mountains, board games, country music, and softball!
