Donor Alliance Advocates for Life are the heart and soul of our efforts to inspire and educate our community about the importance of signing up to be an organ, eye and tissue donor in Colorado and Wyoming. Each of our Advocates have their own unique and inspiring story to tell. In this Advocate Spotlight, meet Eileen Maddox, a passionate Recipient’s Grandparent from Durango, CO. Eileen has been a dedicated Advocate for Life for 8 years!
What’s your favorite thing about volunteering at Donor Alliance? My favorite thing about volunteering with Donor Alliance is all the people I meet. Everyone has a story and it usually speaks to how wonderful humans are! When times get tough we dig in and are resilient and amazing through it all.
If you could have any super power for 24 hours, what would you do? My super power would be to make people laugh, in most cases a smile brightens everyone’s world.
What is your proudest accomplishment? My family- my husband, my daughter, my son and everyone who goes along with them; this thing we call life!
What is your favorite season & why? That’s a hard one! I love the changing of seasons, the spring is wonderful with all the flowers and green grass and trees; the summer because you can be outside and enjoy yourself; the fall for the crisp temperature and colors and of course winter for more outdoor activities with family and friends. I guess I like them all!
What song would you sing at karaoke night? “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones.
If you could take an all-expenses paid vacation, where would you go? South Island, New Zealand.
What are some of your favorite hobbies? Tennis, hiking, camping, mountain biking, skiing and snowshoeing.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Don’t take yourself too seriously and enjoy the ride.
